Obituary of Eugene Walker
Eugene (Lou) Walker was born in Delhi, Louisiana, on June 20, 1939, to the proud parents of Johnnie and LB Walker.
Eugene's early childhood years were spent in Richmond, CA., which there he graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1957. He later joined the Army on July 7, 1959, as a Motor Transport Operator. He received numerous medals, badges, citations, and ribbons for his service. He then was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, which is where he met his lifelong companion, Elfriede Walker, in 1960. He then married the woman he loved dearly on December 29, 1961. Within this time not long after Eugene served in the Vietnam and Korean War. Eugene then retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant on June 30, 1982, in Fort Ord, CA.
Eugene later was employed with Carmel River School on June 1,1984, as the Head Custodian known as "Super Lou".
In 1985, Eugene and Elfriede took in and raised Dawn Mitchell and welcomed three grandchildren whom he cherished dearly, Keia Dawnae, Daja, and Jovanah Mitchell.
Eugene then retired from Carmel River School on July 1, 2011.
Eugene was most ecstatic and pleased when he was surrounded by the love and laughter of family and friends. Eugene was a lifelong member of the Retired Men's Social Club in Seaside, CA., and was a dedicated 49er fan. Although he watched football and basketball avidly, he was loyal to his teams.
Eugene dedicated most of his life with his loving wife. When you see him, you see her. He worked hard and was honest. He was a highly respected man, a wonderful provider for his family and inspiring father-figure and role model to everyone he crossed paths with. His values will be continued through generations to come.
Eugene was preceded in death by his mother LB Walker and father Johnnie Walker, his brothers Tommy Walker and Clarence Walker, and his sister Adell Johnson.
Eugene leaves to cherish his precious memories with his beloved wife Elfriede Walker, his daughter Dawn Mitchell of Seaside, his grand-daughters Keia Dawnae Mitchell, Daja Mitchell, and Jovanah Mitchell, sisters Joanna (William) Smith of Ontario, CA., and Johnni Mae Walker of Richmond, CA., along with numerous nieces and nephews, a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
