Obituary of Michael Allen Ziebell

Michael Allen Ziebell of Marina passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at 64 years young on May 13, 2023. He was the son of George and Rita (Cavanaugh) Ziebell. Michael and his twin brother were born prematurely at Fort Ord Hospital and Michael weighed only 2 pounds and 13 ounces at birth. Mike’s mother said he was known as the “smiling boy” after he was born.

Mike graduated from Seaside High School and Monterey Peninsula College (MPC). Over a span of 44 years, Mike worked for the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (MPUSD), Santa Catalina School and Stevenson School in Pebble Beach where he retired in March 2023. Mike loved his westerns, music from the 60’s and 70’s, watching his favorite teams play on TV (Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears), working in the yard tending to his roses and spending time with all members of his family.

Mike is preceded in death by his dad, George, his mom, Rita and many beloved pets. He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-six years Susan (Hasychak) Ziebell; two sons Blake Ziebell and Brett Ziebell; his brothers Mark (Elizabeth) Ziebell and Chuck Ziebell and his sister CyrAnn (Chris) Castle.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Corral de Tierra Country Club, 81 Corral de Tierra Road, Salinas on May 31, 2023, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Monterey County SPCA, Animal Friends Rescue Project (AFRP) or Peace of Mind Dog Rescue, organizations he felt strongly about because of his love for animals. His friends and family are invited to share happy memories and celebrate Mike’s life in the way he would want to be remembered – as a loving and caring man who always enjoyed talking and being with the people he cared most about.
