Obituary of Shirley Ruth Smith

Shirley Ruth Smith of Seaside, California passed away quietly in her sleep on April 11^th, 2021. She was 90 years old. Shirley was born January 9, 1931 at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Aurora, Colorado. She is survived by her loving daughter Michelle, sister Beverly Cupp, brother-in-law Bobby Smith and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald “Smitty” Smith and son Michael Coeburn.

She enjoyed all types of movies and could remember all her favorite actors. She worked for many years at Fort Ord’s Officers Clubs and the Fort Ord PX Nursery. She co-owned Cuz’s Sportsman Club in Seaside with her daughter. In years past she was very active with bowling leagues, golf and loved to dance. Shirley enjoyed flowers, holiday festivities and her home. Living in Seaside brought her great happiness.

Shirley lived in many places growing up. Her dad was in the Army and the family moved around. In her teens Shirley travelled to Darmstadt Germany with her family right after World War 2. She was in the first graduating class of seven kids at the school.
