Obituary of Fukue Collins
Fukue Collins of Monterey, 85, passed away on September 30, 2019 surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on January 15, 1934 at 6-Chome, Hirosawa, Gumma-ken, Japan to Takisaburo and Tora Sakamoto, the tenth child of ten. On December 9, 1955, Fukue married her lifelong husband of 64 years, Ralph Collins, who preceded in death, his wife on April 3rd, 2019. During the first 20 years of their marriage, the couple along with their two daughters, Norma and Karen, lived in various locations as Ralph served tours of duty in Japan, Washington, Alaska, California, Germany and Southeast Asia. They made their home in Seaside upon Ralph’s retirement. The family moved to a “house on the hill” in Monterey in 1976.
Fukue was a caregiver and support provider for many years. Her devotion to the Ingram family was much appreciated and created a bond that lasted a lifetime.
Fukue kept her Japanese culture within the family through her many years of involvement and participation with the Monterey JACL, singing with the Kiyo club, Monterey Ikebana organization and membership with the Seaside Buddhist Church. She also enjoyed working in the garden, arranging flowers, watching JTV and most of all, spending time cooking for her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Norma and Karen; her grandchildren, Michael, Mehrissa, John and Lorin; and her 8 great-grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her grandson, Jack. Fukue was also mom and grandma to many other extended family members and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews from the Collins clan originating in Indiana.
She was a caring and very generous person who had a humble demeanor and beautiful smile. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.
Memorial and Interment Services will be held on Friday December 6, at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside.
