Obituary of Norma Kageyama

SEASIDE ? Norma Kageyama, 96, was called to heaven on April 21, 2011. She was born Norma Yamamoto in Watsonville, CA. She spent her early years in Japan, the South S. F. Bay area, then Livingston, CA. In 1934 she married Thomas Kageyama and moved to the Monterey Peninsula where she lived for 77 years. At the outbreak of World War II, she and the family were forced to leave Monterey and were interned in Poston, AZ. for the duration of the war. Upon returning to Monterey she worked in the sardine canneries during the hay days of the sardine industry. In 1953 Thomas and Norma bought the 3 Star Market in Monterey which they operated until their retirement in 1976. Norma was preceded in death by Thomas and son Ken. Surviving are sons Roger and Yoe. Norma will be remembered for her wonderful smile and her caring heart. She will be greatly missed. A private family service will be held at a later date. Any memorial offerings can be made to the El Estero Presbyterian Church in Monterey. Arrangements under the direction of Seaside Funeral Home.
