Obituary of Ruthie L. Holloway

Seaside - Ruth Holloway, age 88, died January 6, 2014, at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Born February 23, 1925, in Homer, Louisiana, she was a blessing to her parents, the late Louella Allen and John Ferrell. She was one of eight children. She has lived on the Monterey Peninsula for 64 years. Ruth accepted Christ at an early age in Homer, Louisiana. After she moved to California, she united with the Hays CME Church in Seaside, where she served faithfully as a member of the Women's Missionary Society. God gifted this wonderful lady with the gift of hospitality. The church often called upon her to bring her special flair for many social events. When family members and friends came into her home, she always provided them with the best home-cooked meal you ever wanted to taste. Her kitchen was where everybody wanted to congregate and talk. She enjoyed being a part of the City of Seaside senior activities. In 2011, she was honored by the local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. with the "Women of Longevity" award. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: three brothers, O.B. Ferrell of Compton, California and Jessie Ferrell and Rollie Ferrell of Minden, Louisiana; two daughters, Thelma McIntosh of Marina, California and Celestine Bennett of Seaside, California; surrogate daughters, Linda and Diane Olivier of Carmel Valley, California; her devoted grandson, Gary Hood of Seaside, California, who was her caretaker throughout her illness; eight additional grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren, She also leaves a host of relatives, special friends and church family. Visitation will be held on January 16, 2014, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mission Memorial Park and Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, 1915 Ord Grove Ave., Seaside. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., January 17, 2014, at Hays CME Church, located at 625 Elm St., Seaside, California.
