Obituary of Sarah Palma Acevedo

Sarah Palma Acevedo age 92, died January 14, 2011. She was born on May 18, 1913 to Geronima Palma and Juan Flores. Sarah was the third child of Geronima and Juan. Sarah met Dario Martinez Acevedo in 1930 at the "76 Ranch" in Wilcox, AZ. Sarah worked in the kitchen serving the ranch hands their meals. She also worked at the main house as a housekeeper. Sarah married Dario in March, 1932. Sarah gave birth to nine children; Julian, Helen, Edward, Angelina, Jane, Bernadine, Linda, Sarah and Claudia. In 1939 Sarah and Dario moved from the "76 Ranch" to "Rancho San Carlos" in Carmel Valley, CA. Sarah worked as a housekeeper at the main house. Sarah and Dario lived many years at the Ranch with their children. After leaving Rancho San Carlos, Sarah and Dario moved to Seaside, CA. Sarah worked for various families as a housekeeper in Carmel, Carmel Valley, Monterey and Pacific Grove. She also worked in the Sardine Factories on Cannery Row in the early 1950's. Sarah worked at the Lamplighter Inn, in Carmel for several years. In 1966 Sarah and Dario moved back to Carmel Valley with their daughter, Claudia. At this time Sarah retired and enjoyed time with her family, going to the river, gardening and reading. In 1977 Sarah and Dario moved to Prunedale and in 2004, Sarah moved to Soledad with her daughter, Linda and her family. Sarah is preceded in death by her husband, Dario M. Acevedo; children, Julian Acevedo, Sarah Acevedo, Bernadine Paige, Helen Avila; and great granddaughter, Janelle Leilani Naioa. Sarah is survived by her children: Edward Acevedo, of Red Bluff, CA, Angie Builta of Carmel Valley, CA, Jane Hargrove of Madera, CA, Linda Brown of Soledad, CA, and Claudia Acevedo-Leibert of Moorpark, CA; 32 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren, and 47 great-great-grandchildren. Sarah was an avid reader. She enjoyed reading the local newspapers, and a variety of books. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and shopping at the various shops in Carmel. The Mediterranean Market on Carmel Avenue was one of her favorite places to shop.
