Obituary of Yvonne Marshall Rhines

Yvonne Marshall Rhines was born February 26th, 1931, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Julia Lewis Marshall and the late Edison Toby Marshall, Sr. She answered the call to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 8th, 2018, peacefully at her home in Seaside, California. Yvonne was reared in New Orleans, LA, in a home with a praying mother. She attended Booker T. Washington High School. She was outgoing and had an easy, friendly personality. She kept in touch with her childhood and neighborhood friends in New Orleans. Yvonne was always ready to enjoy herself and have a good time. She especially cherished the time spent with family and friends. Yvonne was married to the late Fred Rhines, he was the love of her life. They lived in Monterey, CA. Fred and Yvonne were active members of New Hope Baptist Church in Seaside, CA. under the Pastor ship of Rev. Benjamin Franklin. Yvonne worked in the dry cleaning business most of her adult life. She worked and retired from Martinizing Dry Cleaning in Monterey, CA. Yvonne leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters, Cynthia M. Johnson of Monterey, CA, Carolyn Johnson Blaise and her husband Edward C. Blaise, Jr. of Lafayette, LA; grandsons, Derek E. Johnson of California and Edward "Trey" Blaise, III of Chicago, IL; great-grandson, Jordan Hall-Johnson of Seaside, CA; sisters, Althea M. Lawes (the late Norman) of New Orleans, LA, Dorothy M. Gillespie of Chicago, IL, Celestine M. Harris of Manassas, VA, Julia M. Sheppard of Arkadelphia, AR, Essie L. Blanchard (Ronald) of New Orleans, LA; brothers, Edison T. Marshall, Jr. and wife Dixie Moreno Valley, CA, Bobby J. Marshall, Sr. of New Orleans, LA, Isiah Lewis of Riverside, CA; Sisters-in-law, Yvonne Handy of Baton Rouge, LA, Ruby Sheppard of New Orleans, LA; a special sister-in-law, Alma Sheppard of Atlanta, GA, and a host of family and friends. Yvonne also helped to raise two very special young men: Sean Patton of Seaside, CA, and her nephew Ronald Blanchard, Jr. (Stacy) of Seaside, CA. They served as her caretakers until the end. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Rhines, her sister, Brenda Sheppard Jones; her brothers, Hugh Marshall and Louis L. Sheppard. Yvonne had a great sense of humor. She loved New Orleans culture, especially Mardi Gras, second lines, and the cuisine (hot sausage poboys and red beans and rice). She also looked out for those she loved and protected them. A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 18th, 2018, from 9-11 am at Seaside Funeral Home, 1915 Ord Grove Avenue, Seaside, CA. A Funeral Service will follow the viewing at 11 am. The family would like to acknowledge her special friends who went above and beyond the call of duty: Robert Swanigan and Arcola Morgan, Thank you!
