Obituary of Marcial Sabado

Marcial P. Sabado June 30, 1917 to October 22, 2010 Eternal rest grant on to him O Lord and let the perpetual light shine upon him Marcial was born in the Philippine Islands. He became an American citizen during WW II while fighting for the United States and our freedom. He was a POW and survived the Bataan Death March. Marcial was an Infantryman and was given back his field commissioned as a First Lt when he retired. He moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1961. Marcial began his second career in federal service at Fort Ord as a warehouseman. Once again he completed his federal service and retired. Marcial was the president of the Filipino-American Club. He wanted to keep our culture alive for future generations to embrace. A major contribution made by the Fil-Am Club to the City of Seaside was the purchase of its first Ambulance. Countless lives were saved by their generosity. The City of Seaside thanked Marcial for his leadership in acquiring the Ambulance by naming a park, Sabado Park, on Harding Place after him. Education for all was high on his priority list. The Fil-Am club awarded college scholarships annually. He advanced his education at Monterey Peninsula College and received an Associates of Art Degree. Those who know Marcial will remember most his sense of devotion and service to God. He was a 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He lived his faith. His was married to Virginia. His children are Marlene, Antonio, Lillibeth, Bobby, Gina, Valente and Sally. Marcial was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
