Obituary of Lawrence Victor Galuppo

Lawrence (Larry / Junior) was born to Katherine and Alonzo Galuppo on December 11, 1931 in Monterey California. He was the fourth of seven children, Tom Galuppo (deceased), Phyllis Roberts, Anna Sorensen, Josephine Lackey, Carol Thompson and Ronald Galuppo. He passed away due to natural causes on May 2nd, 2011. Lawrence spent the majority of his life living and working on the Monterey Peninsula. He was educated at Monterey High School. As a young man he ran the Boys and Girls Club in Monterey and was employed on Cannery Row at Hovden?s Cannery. He was drafted into the Army on December 9th, 1953 where he was stationed at Thule Air force base in Greenland. He was an Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Crewman. During his military service, he received the National Defense Service Metal. After his military time he returned to Monterey and worked tending bar at his father?s business, ?Casa Galuppo? and driving truck for the American Freezer Company. He then spent 20 years employed by Pebble Beach Company where he constructed and repaired roadways. Larry is remembered as a man who had a deep passion for his family, his horses and his dogs. As a great storyteller he studied and enjoyed sharing the history of Monterey with his family. He was also a fan of country western music and enjoyed singing Hank Williams songs and playing the harmonica for his family. He was an accomplished horseman and patrolled the Jack?s Peak recreation area on horseback taking pride in ensuring the trails were safe for all hikers and horseback riders. He was an avid dog lover and spent many years training German Shorthair Pointers for hunting and field trial exhibition. His favorite dog of all time was an Australian Shepherd named Gusto! He is survived by his four children Lynn Torres of Antelope CA, Sharon Gleason of Prunedale, CA, Vicki Schafbuch of Gilbert AZ and Larry Galuppo of Granite Bay CA, and his six grandchildren Jennifer Callard, Austin Schafbuch, Savannah Gleason, Isabella Torres, Jordan and John Galuppo. He will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, a storyteller, and lover of animals and children. He will be missed by all.
