Obituary of Karen Denise Johnson-Ebersole

Karen was born on October 13th, 1962 in Fort Irwin, Ca to Erika M. Johnson and the late Donald A. Johnson. Being a military brat, when she was two years old she was able to live in her favorite country, Germany, from the summer of 1964 to the summer of 1967.The family then moved back to California, first to Fort Ord and then to Marina. She attended Patton Elementary, Olson Elementary, Los Arboles Middle, Fitch Middle and graduated from Seaside High School. She then attended Monterey Peninsula College and graduated with an AA degree in Hospitality. Although she did not use that degree, she worked very hard for it. Shortly after graduation she worked for Slakey Bros for a few years. She was a current employee of Target in Sand City for many years and also worked at MPC cafeteria during the last several years. She became friends with and was well regarded by many of her co-workers in both positions. In her youth, Karen was an avid participant in the Fort Ord Junior Bowling Program, and continued bowling as an adult until a back injury forced her to retire from the sport. She enjoyed attending races at the Laguna Seca race track and volunteered with Marina Youth Soccer Association while her children played soccer. In April of 1997, she was fortunate enough to return to Germany with her children and parents, to celebrate her grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary. Karen Ebersole, was 52 years young when she passed away at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (C.H.O.M.P.) from complications following surgery while battling cervical cancer. Karen is survived by her two children, Angela (Kevin) Taylor of Vallejo, Ca and Michael Ebersole Jr of Amarillo, Tx; grandson, Silas Ebersole; mother Erika Johnson; sister Michele (Glen) Hensley; nephews, Richard (Lauren) and Christopher; and niece, Kirsten Hensley. She is also survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Germany. Karen also leaves behind her beloved cats, to be taken care of by her family. So in her memory, the family requests any contributions be made to either or both of the following charities: Animal Friends Rescue Project or the SPCA of Monterey County. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Oncology Department at CHOMP, Pacific Cancer Care at Ryan Ranch, with special thanks to Dr. Koontz, Dr. Hausdorff, Dr. Feehan and Dharma Naidu of the CHOMP Pharmacy for their care and compassion.
