Lynda Yokogawa

Obituary of Lynda Yokogawa

Lynda Yokogawa, 58, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Community Hospital. Her cancer may have taken her life but it never took her positive loving spirit. Lynda was born in Long Beach, CA on June 29, 1952 to Masao and Grace Yokogawa. At the age of six months the family returned to the Monterey Peninsula where she has resided since. She graduated from Monterey High School and Monterey Peninsula College. From a very young age Lynda worked at and then managed Instant Copy and Printing. Following her time at Instant Copy she then went to work for the federal government. Lynda was a Supervisor at the Document Automation and Production Service at the Naval Post Graduate School. She then continued her career as Publication Production Coordinator for the Curriculum Development Department at the Presidio of Monterey. Her work was important to her because it provided her with the opportunity to provide customer service; nothing was more important to her than trying to help someone. Lynda enjoyed many different aspects of life including traveling, reading (primarily cookbooks) and watching the Forty Niners, Sharks, and Giants. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than seeing her beloved Giants win the World Series. She could be heard for days afterward remarking "Can you believe they did it?" This was a great joy for her. The biggest love of life for Lynda was her very large family. With so many aunties, uncles and cousins there was never a lack of stories to tell. She often spoke of the many family functions, dinners, parties, picnics at Big Sur, trips to the beach or ball games, weddings and family reunions. She was so proud of all of you. Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Mas and Grace Yokogawa and her favorite kitty girl, Maggie. She is survived by her beloved brother, Jerry; sister-in-law, Donna; and nephews, Ryan, his wife Carrie, and Jeremy. Oh, how she loved her magnificent nephews. She is also survived by her long time companion Beverly Eschenbacher and her favorite kitty boy, Opie. Lynda was a very loving soul, spiritually centered and emotionally happy. She always lived her life to the best of her ability, trying to help and take care of others. She felt she had done her best here on earth and she felt certain she would be seeing her relatives in heaven. Lynda chose not to have a service because she did not want you to be sad for her, especially during this holiday season. She would want you to celebrate the holidays and love your family and friends. When you think of Lynda, don't think of the sickness. Remember only that great big smile, the overflowing heart and the joy she felt when she saw you. She loved her family and friends. Lynda chose to be cremated and will be inurned at a later date at Mission Memorial Park. Many thanks go to all who cared for Lynda during her illness. Thank you to Dr. John Hausdorff, Dr. Bradley Tamler, Dr. Patrick Feehan, Dr. Cassandra Ohlsen, Dr. Virginia Hansen and Dr. Samuel Ballon. You provided Lynda with the best care and she felt so blessed to have you as her doctors. To the staffs at Monterey Bay Oncology and Radiation Oncology at CHOMP, thank you. Lynda felt so safe and taken care of by all of you. She always said nobody wants to go through this but if you have to - I'm at the best place. Lynda appreciated you so much - thank you - to all you loving and dedicated care givers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to El Estero Church or The SPCA for Monterey County.
