Obituary of Harley Philip Wood

HARLEY PHILIP WOOD FEBRUARY 4, 1923 ~ DECEMBER 3, 2011 Harley Philip Wood was born on February 4, 1923 to a large Irish Catholic family in Sioux City, Iowa. In his youth, Harley was a boxer and a free spirit with a sense of playfulness and an inquisitive mind. In September 1943 Harley married the great love of his life, Margaret Phillips. The couple headed West to California where they raised their five children, eventually settling in Carmel, CA. He was commonly known as "Uncle Bump" by his family and "Papa" by his many grandchildren. Harley was born with a song in his heart and was well known for brightening the lives of many with his song and his guitar. Harley also lived a life of service through the Knights of Colombus and the Carmel Rancho Lions Club, where he served as president for many years. Harley made his living as an upholsterer and a massage therapist. Always eager to learn, Harley was a constant student of hollistic medicine and the health field. Harley was a friend to many and always quick to lend a helping hand. Harley was preceded in death by his wife Margaret and eldest son Danny. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. His passing will create a hole in the hearts of his loved ones that will not easily be filled. In Harley's own words, "I've lived a good life." He was much loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting him and will be missed each and every day. May God bless and keep you Harley!
