Obituary of Gerlando Licata

Gerlando "Gino" Licata passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, September 9, 2017, with loving family members by his side. Gino was born in Palermo, Sicily on February 9, 1929 to Antonino and Rosa Licata, with twin brother Lorenzo, and younger sister Lina. He and his wife Salvatrice (Tina) Sacci were married on March 4, 1956 and they came to America with three of their children in 1962, and made a life for themselves in Monterey, CA. where his wife's family had also settled. Gino provided for his growing family by taking on many jobs throughout the years and became a member of Union member Local 377 Iron Worker Association, and retired from Associated Rebar early 1997 to take care of his loving wife while battling cancer.. Gino had the opportunity to help build a number of the bridges and overpasses in the Bay Area. Gino enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, cooking, home improvements, Gino was quite the singer & dancer in his day. He is predeceased by his wife Salvatrice (Tina) Licata in May of 1999. Gino is survived by his 6 children & their spouses: Rosa(Gary)Adkins , Antonino (Patty) Licata, Giacomo Licata, Frances Mayer, Nicholas(Heidi)Licata, and Josephine Licata; 11 Grandchildren; and 12 Great Grandchildren. Gino was a friend to many in the community and will be greatly missed. A special thank you to VNA & Hospice & their staff: Joyce, Maryam, Dr. Sweet, Dr. Kristina, Senorina, Katya; and many others who have served , took care & loved him including Heidi, Patty, Jennifer, Linda & David, Tanisha. Services will be held at Santa Rosalia Chapel at San Carlos Cemetery, 792 Fremont St, Monterey, CA., Friday, September 15, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Central Coast VNA Hospice.
