Obituary of Beatrice Anne Weiner

Beatrice "Betty" Anne Weiner of Pebble Beach passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4, 2015, after a brief illness. Betty is survived by three daughters: Andrea (Hershel) Harrod, Virginia (Brian) Malzkuhn and Elizabeth (Jack LaValle) Rose, grandchildren, Christopher, Gregory and Julie Inga, Matthew, Melissa and Megan Malzkuhn, John Harrod, great-grandson, Eric Harrod, numerous nieces and nephews and first cousin, Maryann Carpenter. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward, daughters, Joan Inga and Karen Weiner, granddaughter, Michelle Inga, sister, Dorothy Jane Wilson Blasquez, and two brothers, Robert George Beaumont and Dr. James Ormond Beaumont. Betty, a third generation Peninsulan, was born on September 8, 1920 in Monterey to Rose Ormond Beaumont and Jack Beaumont. In December 1926, the Beaumont family moved from their home in Pacific Grove to a home on the grounds of Del Monte Hotel (now the Naval Post Graduate School), where her father was an executive with Del Monte Properties. Betty graduated from Oak Grove Grammar School and Monterey Union High School, and attended San Jose State College, where she was employed in the SJSC Registrar's office. While at SJSC, in 1942, she was, literally, swept off her feet by a brash, young husband-to-be, Edward Weiner, at a dance at the Catholic Women's Center for the World War II soldiers. On May 22, 1943, they were married in the chapel at Ft. Dix in New Jersey where Lt. Weiner was stationed. They lived in Trenton, NJ until his unit went overseas with General George Patton's 3rd Army. Betty returned to the Monterey Peninsula to await the birth of her firstborn and return of her husband three years later. After the war, Betty and Ed settled in the Richmond, CA area for two years prior to returning to Monterey. Ed established Del Rey Plumbing & Hardware Supply on the Peninsula, with Betty, an astute bookkeeper, working alongside him, while raising five daughters. They also formed National Builders Emporium, a land development, real estate and consulting firm, in Monterey. Over the years, a few of Betty's favorite organizations in which she held offices, were the San Carlos School Mother's Club, the Monterey Civic Club, Quota Club and the Monterey Speech and Hearing Institute Auxiliary. Betty and Ed shared a reverence for the lessons of history and stayed engaged in world and local affairs and humanitarian causes. They traveled extensively and enjoyed a honeymoon marriage for 58 years until his death in 2001. Betty was a voracious reader and had a passion for music and the arts. She was an accomplished equestrienne and avid gardener. She was known for her beautiful smile, wisdom, warmth, selflessness and droll sense of humor. She prized her faith, family and friends; was a fantastic homemaker, peacemaker and inspiration to all who knew her. A memorial service will be held in the Santa Rosalia Chapel at San Carlos Cemetery in Monterey on Friday, November 13, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. Inurnment to follow at San Carlos Cemetery. A reception celebrating Betty's life immediately following services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's name, to San Carlos Cathedral Restoration Fund at San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church Street, Monterey, CA 93940 or to VNA & Hospice at P.O.
