Obituary of Valera Brown

Valera Gail Brown passed away at home on Easter Sunday, April 5th, 2015. She was born July 19th, 1932 to John and Mary Sparre in Los Angeles, California. She lived her entire life in California and loved the mountains and the beach. She raised her family in Newport Beach, worked for many years as a surgical nurse in Mammoth Lakes and later went back to school in San Diego and earned a degree as a registered nurse. In her younger years she loved skiing and tennis. She was devoted to her children and was in their words "the best mom ever". "Val" as her friends called her, was a compassionate, loving wife and mother. She welcomed all into her home with a cheerful smile, no matter how she was feeling. She was a passionate homemaker and created a sanctuary in every home she lived in. She loved cooking for her guests and seeing the joy of everyone gathered around her table, especially at Thanksgiving. Even in her absence you feel her warm embrace. In every nook and corner you see her smiling face. In every room, her special touch. She will always be remembered, even though she's missed so much. She loved animals, sewing, gardens, reading and exchanging books with her friends. She loved reading so much you would think she ate books for breakfast. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Kenneth Brown; her children, Pamela Romer Cheek of Sausalito and Richard Romer of Hawaii. Step daughter Shelly Snyder of Carmel and Grandchildren Angela Snyder and Jeff Snyder. Her brother, Cortland Sparre of Southern California. She also had multiple nieces, nephews and cousins and kept in touch with all of them. She will be missed by all of her family and friends, especially her spirit sister "Ciss"… A family visitation took place at Mission Mortuary on Wednesday, April 8th and private memorial will be held in "her" most comfortable place, her home on Sunday, April 12, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Disabled Veterans or the ASPCA.
