Obituary of Betty Dawn Reta

Betty Reta passed away on February 24, 2015 at the age of 90. Betty was born to Raymond and Elizabeth Wasmund in 1924 and grew up in Worthington, Minnesota on the family farm. After graduating from high school she left Worthington with her sister Arlette to work in New York; after working in New York for several years she left for Sacramento, California where her mother was living. Betty went to work for Bruener's Furniture store in Sacramento where she became friends with the person who introduced her to the love of her life, George Reta. Betty and George married in 1947 and remained happily married until George passed away in 2008. Betty and George raised their three sons Michael, Andy and Ron in Sacramento and in 1967 moved to Monterey where George opened the Golden Tee Restaurant. Betty's main interest throughout her life was her family, she loved having family gatherings and was a wonderful mother and grandmother to all. Betty enjoyed living in Monterey; she particularly enjoyed having lunches out in restaurants around town. Betty and George took two trips to Spain where they visited with relatives of George whose parents were immigrants from there and toured the country with George's sister and brother-in-law Nita and Phil York. Betty also enjoyed attending San Carlos Church with George. Betty was a kind and gentle person and always had a smile for whoever she knew and many that she didn't. Betty is survived by her sons Michael (Joan) of Monterey, Andy (Liz) of Monterey and Ron (Debra) of Sacramento. She is also survived by her grandchildren Andrew Reta (Jennifer), Melinda Reta Walker (Russel), Alison Reta (fiancé Sean Toshima) and Russell Reta (Cindy) and 4 great grandchildren. Betty's sister Arlette Davies died in 1992 and her brother Gaylord in 1967. The Retas would like to acknowledge Elysee Lara, Ethel Lara, and Eva Escalante who cared for Betty while still in her home; and the Reta family thanks all the caregivers at Close to Home where Betty spent her final years, but in particular Lisa and Stacy who gave her such kind and loving care. The family also thanks the Visiting Nurses Association for their care of Betty and their unwavering support of the family. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations may be sent to: Meals on Wheels, 700 Jewell Ave., Pacific Grove, Ca 93950.
