Obituary of Raymond Denis Wuco

Raymond Denis Wuco passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord in Carmel-by-Sea, California on December 30, 2014. He was 86 years old. Ray was preceded to the comfort of our Lord by his wife Lynn in 2007. Ray will be remembered for his sense of duty, devotion and presence to his many mathematics students in a teaching career that lasted for nearly 50 years. He taught with various schools of the Marianist Catholic order in Ohio and California where he was a religious Brother for 25 years. He left the Order in the early 1970's a commenced a distinguished teaching career with San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, California. He served on a variety of mathematics councils in California. In Stockton, he met his one true love on earth, Lynn Vallin. The two were married in 1975 and were inseparable and lived in Holy Matrimony for 31 years as an example to all who marveled at their perfect love for, and complete devotion to, one-another. Ray and Lynn retired to Carmel-by-the-Sea, California in 1996 where they were loved by many at the Carmel Mission where they attended Mass and where Ray ushered until just weeks before his passing. Ray also served on the Monterey County Grand Jury, the Carmel Foundation, attended the Monterey Symphony, and was President of his Housing Association where he was a loving and dedicated neighbor to all. His friends, associates, and beloved students are too many to mention. Following the passing of his older brother Walter Wuco 10 years ago, Ray became Patriarch of the Wuco (Vuco) Family Branch of Anthony and Gloria Wuco (Anton Vuco & Slavinka Puharic) who immigrated from Croatia in 1905 and 1910, respectively and passed in 1965. He is survived by his younger brother, Carl, as well as a number of cousins, mostly in Ohio. Ray and Lynn had no children, but leave behind many nephews and nieces and their children who regarded Ray and Lynn in a strata all their own. He was always there; always present; funny, charming, and full of love and grace. Vigil and Holy Rosary service will be held from 5-7 PM on January 6, 2015 at Mission Mortuary, Monterey, California. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at 10:00 AM (PST) at Carmel Mission Basilica in Carmel, California.
