Obituary of Mary Lou O'Neill

Mary Lou was born in Anaconda, Montana on January 27, 1927, and she passed away peacefully at Anjelica's Villa in Seaside an hour after receiving the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Sally O'Neill Tich and her husband Greg; her son, Thomas F. O'Neill, III; her sister, Fran Lowman and her husband Sam; and by her nephews, cousins, and friends. Mary Lou was preceded in death in 1974 by her husband Cdr. Thomas F. O'Neill, Jr., a U.S. Navy fighter pilot; her parents, Kay and Frank Stupca; and her sister, Dorothy Stupca. Mary Lou graduated with a degree in music from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She was a violinist who greatly enjoyed classical music and concerts. She was an outstanding homemaker, gourmet cook, and hostess for family, military, and personal gatherings. The family is extremely grateful for the devotion and compassion provided to Mary Lou by Patty Cooney, who made certain that Mary Lou's final years were spent in comfort and with dignity. We also deeply acknowledge the love, care, and support of each and every member of Mary Lou's dedicated team of therapists and caregivers at Anjelica's Villa. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 9:30 am at San Carlos Cathedral, 500 Church St., Monterey, followed by interment with her husband at San Carlos Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made on Mary Lou's behalf to the Alzheimer's Assn., 21 Lower Ragsdale Dr. #B, Monterey, CA 93940, or online at www.alz.org.
