Obituary of Linda Lou Johnston

Linda Johnston was born on March 30, 1940 in Chico, California. She died of breast cancer on October 19 in Pacific Grove, following a 30-year remission. After the cancer returned four years ago, Linda was placed under the care of Dr. Nancy Rubin, whose dedication gave her life, whose uplifting manner gave her hope, and who Linda came to regard as a personal friend. Linda is survived by her husband Ron of 51 years; her children, Scott Johnston of Brentwood TN and Kelley Etherington of Alamo CA; her sisters Sharon Hatch and Susan Powell; four grandchildren, Rachel and Timothy Etherington, and Luke and Zachary Johnston; cousins Vaughn Marian and Carol Yavasile, and by two nieces and four nephews. Linda was preceded in death by her brother, John Boyles, and her nephew, Peter Hatch. Linda was a stay-at-home mom most of her life. She was most happy living simply, enjoying her family, her loyal dog, a good book, a new recipe, or a competitive hand of bridge. Linda was a serene and gentle soul who always put the needs of others before herself. She'll be missed by all who had the good fortune to know her. Mission Mortuary of Monterey is holding a graveside service on October 28 at 2pm at the El Carmelo Cemetery, Asilomar Ave., Pacific Grove. A reception will follow at the Pacific Grove Golf Course restaurant.
