Obituary of Kyungsook Chang

Pacific Grove- A longtime resident of Pacific Grove, Mrs. K. Chang peacefully passed away in her sleep on September 9, 2013. She was born in Seoul, Korea, and after high school, met her love and life-long partner, Namgui Chang. Soon, they had their first son Dennis. Namgui was doing his graduate work at U. C. Berkeley in 1950 when the Korean War broke out. Mrs. Chang fled south to Pusan with Dennis at which time he was recruited to DLI in Monterey. With kindly help given by the Commandant of DLI, Mr. and Mrs. Chang were able to reunite in Monterey. Subsequently, they had a daughter, Sonya, and two sons James and Warren. As soon as she learned to speak English Mrs. Chang found work in an antique shop in Carmel-By-The-Sea, which eventually led her to open her own Asian antique store "Kaya" in Carmel. She always had passion for antiques and creating her own design of unique jewelry pieces. At this time, she has three grandchildren: Erin (Dennis's daughter with Nikki,) Martin and Matthew (Warren's sons with Heather.) She retired early to enjoy the beautiful coastal city of Pacific Grove with her husband, their children and their pet Scotties: Monty and Baby Blue. In lieu of a memorial service a small get together of her family and close friends will be held, with Buddhist meditation, to celebrate her active life, full of love and affection for everyone she met in our community. Please contact Mission Mortuary for service information.
