Obituary of Lawrence Chan
Lawrence Chan, 78, passed away on May 14, 2011 in Fallon, Nevada. He was born on May 22, 1932 in San Francisco. He was a member of the Chan family who owned and operated the Shanghai Low Restaurant in Monterey from 1933 to 1983. Larry later worked for the Hyatt Regency from 1983 to 2000. He retired to Fallon to enjoy fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Aiko; his four children, Bobby Jones (Maria), Roger Jones, Christine Newmyer (Cliff) and Betty Mazur; his three sisters, Helen Wolf (Daniel), Pearl Chan, Margaret Chan (Frank) and brother, Corum Chan; his four grandchildren, Nathan Newmyer, Spencer Mazur, Christian and Stephan Castro and nephew Donovan Carrillo. He was pre-deceased by his brother Bernard Chan and his parents Bing Sing Chan and Yut Moy Lee Chan. Visitation will take place at the Mission Mortuary in Monterey on Thursday, May 26 from 10:00am to 1:00pm with a gravesite service to follow at the Monterey city cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
