Obituary of Adiba Raji Mahroom

Our loving mother and grandmother, Adiba Raji Mahroom, passed away surrounded by family on May 16, 2023, at the age of 96. Adiba was born in Baghdad, Iraq, where she was raised with her four sisters and a brother by her mother, Feroza (Née Hanna), and her father Raji Gharib Jahn. Adiba came to the United States in 1954 with the love of her life Majid, and earned a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from USC.

In 1959, they moved to the Monterey Peninsula, where they raised a family and became successful business owners and real estate entrepreneurs. Adiba worked hard to achieve professional successes, but her greatest passion was being a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a constant source of love, support, and guidance to her family. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, shopping, extended family gatherings, watching performances and musicals and the scenic ocean views of the Monterey Bay.

Adiba will be forever remembered for being a very smart, strong and independent woman with endless love, kindness, and compassion she gave to her family and close friends. Adiba was the family monarch and her wings had been freed to set sail. A cherished stay, High meadows seek the bay, Her love like the breeze, Just a flutter away. She will be greatly missed.

Adiba was preceded in death by her beloved husband Majid and daughter Linda, her two sisters Widad and Huda, and her brother Adeeb. She is survived by her daughters Laila, Roxanne and Dianne; her grandchildren Jocelyn, Rhianna and Zain La Chance; her son-in-law David La Chance, and her sisters Amal Gharib and Thouria Toma and extended family. To honor Adiba’s wishes, a private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life.
