Obituary of Hiroko Calderone

Hiroko Calderone of Marina, California passed away peacefully on May 13, 2022. Hiroko was born in Hokkaido, Japan on March 1st, 1930. She grew up riding horses, swimming in the ocean and skiing to school. She became a teacher before meeting her husband, Eugene Calderone when he was stationed in Japan. Hiroko traveled to many places as a military wife raising 4 children. She enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader while in Germany and earned a Medical Assistant certificate when her children were older, but her passion was knitting and crocheting intricate textile designs in various creations. She made neck warmers for the Monks at the Big Sur Monastery and donated scarves to a local women's shelter. Hiroko was also asked to knit matching scarves for a group of women who went to the capitol to advocate for private breastfeeding rooms for mothers during work. Hiroko and her husband loved traveling to Japan. Including her husband, Hiroko was proceeded in death by her son, Steve Calderone in August 2020 and daughter, Linda Calderone in April 2022. Hiroko is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Rigmaiden, (David); and daughter, Ruth Ann Hudock; and grandsons, Sean and Daniel Rigmaiden.

 

The family would like to thank all the nurses, personal care group and support team of Hospice of the Central Coast for all their passionate care and dedication. We would also like to express our gratitude to Dr. James Joye of Golden State Vascular in Monterey and his staff for all their expert care, guidance, and encouragement.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to your favorite organization.
