Obituary of Florene Newton

Florene Newton passed away peacefully on June 12, 2022 at the age of 94 years. She was born December 13, 1927 in Antlers, Oklahoma to Ida and Loyd Hargrove. She grew up in the small town of Hardwick, CA and graduated from College of Sequoias in Visalia and Fresno State College. She married Edwin L. Newton on July 23, 1949 and for 30 years made a career as an elementary school teacher in Laton and Marina. In addition to teaching, she helped her husband run two family grocery stores. She lived in Seaside for 57 years. She loved flowers and enjoyed playing the piano and spending time with her family and church friends. She was married for 43 years, preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Newton, sister Janice Jespersen, granddaughter Margaret Johnson and a son-in-law Craig Artis. She is survived by her brother, Robert Hargrove, son Stephen Newton of Marina, daughters Susan Artis of Fresno, Robin (John) Owens of Seaside and Rhonda (Clifton) Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and her dog Daisy.

A celebration of Life will take place at 10:45am on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at The First Church of God, 1023 David Ave Pacific Grove, CA 93950. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The First Church of God in Pacific Grove.
