Obituary of Joan Jeanette Blake

Joan Blake was born at Ft. Meade, South Dakota on December 23, 1933, to John Joseph Jenefsky and Nellie Louise Caldwell Jenefsky. She traveled extensively with her military father, and with her husband Don. They were wed in 1952, had three sons Harold, John and Peter.

She started volunteering as room mothers at schools. Went on to having seven cub scout dens, taught catechism in Germany, served as a teacher’s aide at Los Arboles school, helped with ball fields, digging rocks out, painting dug outs and selling candy for Marina Little League, room mother for the Marina Thespian Group, upon arrival at Ft. Ord, she volunteered at Army Community Services, was President of the Stillwell school, and worked as a volunteer at the Ft. Ord Hospital. She was honored to be on the original Parks and Recreation for Marina, and was proud to be the first served eight years on the city council, was a member of the Marina Civic Association and was Mrs. Claus for 24 years. Was the first woman President for the Kiwanis Club of Marina was honored to be a Grand Marshall for our celebration, belonged to the American and VFW auxiliaries. Was also a member of the Marina Youth Arts, and the friends of the Marina Library, and was the President of the Citizens against Police Brutality of Marina. She was proud to serve for the people of Marina. She lost her beloved husband Don in 1988, and her son Hal in 2009.

She is survived by sons John and Peter, her siblings Mike (Pam), sisters Pat (Ben) Fran, Deborah (Ed) Delores (Alan) and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
