Obituary of Goldie Mae McCoy

Goldie Mae Bowman McCoy passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at her home in Carmel, California. She was 100 years old. Mae was born August 20, 1920 in Michigan to Weston and Elizabeth Bowman and grew up in Kitchener, Ontario Canada.

Mae moved to the United States to serve in the Army Nurse Corps from 1944 to 1967. Over her 23 years of service with the United States Army, she advanced to the rank of Major and served as a surgical nurse with the 8063rd MASH unit during the Korean War.

After retiring from the Army, Mae moved to Germany with her husband, Roger McCoy, who she met while in the military. They eventually settled in Carmel in 1975. Until limited by her health, she was an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Carmel. She enjoyed playing Scrabble, walking on the beach with her dog, Nipper and playing golf.

Mae is preceded in death by her husband, her son Tim, her brothers Orlo and Delmar, and her sister Jane. She is survived by her sister Irleen Karn of Kitchener, Ontario Canada. Burial with military honors held on March 29th at the City of Monterey Cemetery.
