Obituary of Eleanor Olivia O'Kane

Eleanor Olivia O’Kane passed away peacefully on January 17, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Richard Aaron O’Kane, and her brother, Victor Mikulin Jr. She is survived by her sister, Marlene Chargin (Bobby), sister-in-law Sharon Mikulin, and her four children: Nancy Jett (Lee), Candice Mahany (Chris), Richard O’Kane Jr. (Patti), and Kevin O’Kane. She also is survived by four loving grandchildren: Shauna Ramirez, Robert Jett IV, Andrew Jett, and Tiffany O’Kane, and 3 great-grandchildren: Rhyan Furrer, Haley Jett and Maddie Jett. Eleanor was an aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was born on May 10, 1928 in Sacramento CA to Mary and Victor Mikulin. She was a proud graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy in Sacramento. In 1949 Eleanor married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) O’Kane, in a lovely ceremony at the Cathedral of the blessed Sacrament in Sacramento.

In 1962 Eleanor and Dick were drawn to the beauty of the Monterey Peninsula where they settled, and proceeded to establish multiple restaurants on Cannery Row. They loved “The Row” and over the years watched it grow into a thriving community. Another restaurant was later opened in San Ramon, CA.

In 2015 Eleanor moved to Sunrise Senior Living where she enjoyed the loving care and friendship of the wonderful staff, and in her final days was shown exceptional compassion and love by Alma. Brittany, Elizabeth, Lettie, Trish, Emy, Lorena and Maria among others. Juliette of Heartland Hospice also played an integral part in Eleanor’s care and comfort. And to all of them we send our heartfelt thanks…we are deeply grateful.

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be a small, private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Eleanor O’Kane to Heartland Hospice of Monterey, or the Alzheimer’s Organization.
