Richard Woods, aged 83 of Monterey, CA, passed away following a long illness after a major stroke. He was born in Union, South Carolina April 22, 1937, the son of Elizbeth Gilliam.
If you asked a hundred people who Richard Woods was, they’d all give you something different. Richard was gentle and kind, loved plants, sports, people, and most of all his family. Richard was a man that would give you the shirt off his back. He was a very serious Businessman in Monterey County for most of his life. He was the sole ownership of Evergreen Landscaping, served as an active member of Seaside and Marina Kiwanis 40 plus years, Alumni of Monterey High School in Track and Field, and much more. He served in the National Guard as 1st Lieutenant at Fort Ord for 19 years from 1957-1975 with an Honorable Discharge. Richard was well known in the Monterey County area.
Richard is survived by his loving children Valerie Woods, Cassandra Woods-Robinson, Zachary Woods, Jeff Woods, and Jason Marc Woods; his beautiful granddaughters, Antonia Parker, Jurusha Woods, Janece Woods, and Jahaira Woods; his handsome grandsons Christopher Woods and Nicholas Woods; his lovely sisters Mary Diaz, Roberta Chaplain, and Mary Jennings; his brothers Alfred Walker, Robert Gilliam, and Garland Stinson; in addition to many cousins, and in-laws.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 1st, 2020 at Mission Mortuary, 1915 Ord Grove Avenue, Seaside, CA 93955. Due to COVID 19, masks and social distance will be ‘Required’. There is limit attendance as well and visitors over the limit will be requested to stay in their cars.
