Celebrating the Life of
James M. Scruggs
1926-2020
James M. Scruggs was born in August 1926, to the late Flora and Jimmie Scruggs in Falls County, Texas.
James graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Marlin and graduated from Prairie View College. He was drafted into the Army, where he served in WWII and then was recalled to service and served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. James reached the rank of Captain and stayed in service until retirement. James then went on to work and retire from Spreckels Sugar Company in Salinas, CA. In 1954, James met and married Dorothy Scruggs. During the years after retirement from Military service, they lived in Seaside, CA and were members of Friendship Baptist Church. They moved to Sacramento, CA in 2005 to be closer to their children.
After two very successful careers, and a long retirement, James went home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2020.
James had 5 children. Janis L. Markham and E. Keith Scruggs, who preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn: Wife, Dorothy Scruggs, daughters, Yvonne Osborne, Shannon Scruggs, Valarie Scruggs; sons-in-laws Richard Markham and Ron Osborne; daughter in-law, Stacey Scruggs; granddaughters, Tiffany Markham, Kendle Markham, Jasmine Patterson, and Kelsie Adesoye; grandsons, Justin Osborne, Jordan Scruggs, Austen Scruggs; grandson-in-law Samuel Adesoye; granddaughter-in-law Casey Scruggs; Britney Wilson; great grandchildren, Kayla Patterson, Aaron Patterson, Maliyah Markham, Justin (B.J.) Osborne, Jace Osborne, Jaidon Osborne, Autumn Scruggs and a host of other relatives and friends.
