Obituary of Margarete Marie Reed

Margarete Marie Reed

Margarete Marie Reed, affectionately known as Marga or Oma, passed away peacefully on July 29th at the age of 85 at home surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Margarete, born in Germany, was preceded in death by her late husband George Reed, Sr. in 1988, and eldest daughter Sharon DeMayo in 2016. She leaves behind 5 children, George Reed, Jr., Renee Reed Williams, Monika Reed, Roger Reed, Sabina Reed Lennon, 14 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

Marga was born in 1934 in Germany and moved to the Monterey Peninsula in 1959, and has been a long time Seaside resident since.  She was best known for her friendly personality and being a knitting/crochet queen, using some of the most unique color combinations. She enjoyed reading history books, romance novels, trying new foods, and watching old television shows and WWI documentaries. She was most admired for freely speaking her mind, having a progressive attitude, and being fearlessly independent. She had a kind heart and fun sense of humor.

Honoring the request of Oma Marga, the family held a private celebration of life reception at her home during her last days so she “could see all her babies while she was alive”, including her two youngest great-granddaughters. Private ceremonies were held at Mission Memorial Park in Seaside where her urn is at rest and ashes were returned to her hometown in Germany by her grandson.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Central Coast for their support as well as all the friends that have reached out in support.  You are very much appreciated.
