Obituary of Francis Smith

Frances C. Smith was born from the union of Mr. Penfield Coleman and Laura Wilson-White on July 13, 1936 in St. Mary's Parish, Louisiana. She was called home on May 9, 2014 at her home in Seaside, California. On December 23, 1960 she took the hand of James Henry Smith in marriage. Two years later they would welcome the first of their two daughters. Frances was the first in her family to graduate high school 1954. In 1968 James and Frances moved to Seaside at which time she joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, which at that time was under the leadership of the late Rev. C. Lewis McFadden. She began her career as an early childhood development specialist in the mid 70's at Child Development Center (CDC) on Fort Ord. When she wasn't working helping to shape the lives and minds of children, she was trying to help them find their way to Christ as a Sunday school teacher or through bible study groups she held in her home. Frances was a very active member of Friendship where she served in the choir, on the usher board and became a Deaconess 1996. Frances is preceded in death by her mother Laura Jackson (aka Sweet or Mama Jack), Her beloved husband James H. Smith, her brother Joshua Hall and her nephew Terry V. Hall. She leaves to forever cherish her memory her two daughters Laura of Seaside and Lola of Salinas. Her two grandchildren Chanel and Elijah as well as her great-granddaughter Dalayna also of Salinas. Her sister-in-law Rosemary Hall of Franklin, LA , nephew Jerry Hall of Franklin, LA, Michael Boatman of Lewisville, TX and Joseph Boatman of Franklin, LA and her nieces Sandra McDonald of Houston, TX, Belva Notto of Franklin, LA , Yolander Hall of Marrero, LA as well as her great nieces Azeidre Notto of Duson, LA and Stephanie Hall of Franklin, LA. Also, her dearly beloved sister Clara Young, daughter Sherry, and son Joel. Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Friend you were loved by all and will be in our hearts forever.
