Obituary of Lessie Mae Hutchins

Lessie Mae Hutchins was born in Monroe, Louisiana on December 6, 1935. She moved to Seaside, California with her family when she was twelve years of age. She married Lemeal Lewis at the young age of 17 and had six beautiful children name, Allen, Palsdo, Larry, Richard, Debra and Lynn. She later remarried on March 17, 1972 to her current husband, Jerome Hutchins. At that time she gained another son, Lamon Hutchins. Lessie and Jerome have been married for over 45 years and have lived in various places including the states of Washington and Virginia, and the country of Japan. Lessie was known to family and friend as Mae and as Mom--to all kids she met. Her love for children came through in all she did in life. She raised her six children (four hardhead boys and two beautiful girls) showing love through kindness and understanding, along with discipline action when necessary (love was a belt). She also became a second mom to Augie, Maryann, Bertha, Patrick and Debbie Birner. And, although money was tight during those early year, her children never felt poor. Mae/Mom was also known for her since of humor that was both soothing and hilarious. She was quick to share a joke in a time of need. Whatever your concern or problem Mom would share her wisdom and humor to guide you through. She loved the sport of baseball and basketball. Her favorite teams were the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Lakers. She also loved games of chance where she experienced lots of luck and good fortune in the games of bingo, scratch offs, cards (there was never any proof of cheating), dominos and her most favorite, the penny slot machines. Mae was a faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church. She did God's work by visiting the sick and transporting the shut-in. She also served as a faithful usher until her health made it no longer possible. Faith, Love and Hope are the spirits that she instilled in all her family. Lessie Mae Hutchins passed away on January 6, 2018 at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. Lessie leaves to mourn her passing her spouse, Jerome Hutchins; six children, Allen and his wife Eileen, Palsdo and his wife Linda, Richard, Debra, Lynn and Lamon; five God children, Augustine, Maryann, Bertha, Patrick and Debbie; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several sisters and brothers, Dyanne, Rosie, Arnold, Velma, Faye, Mable, Joyce, Victoria, Sussett, Amanda, Rory and Percy. Lessie joins her mother, Lillian Martin; father, Paul Spells; son, Larry Lewis and a brother, Reece Robinson, in heaven.
