Obituary of Eloise Black

"You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever!" Psalms 30:11-12 Eloise Black was born on July 20, 1955 in San Francisco, CA to her mother, Lillian Addison & father, Lynwood Prescott. Eloise, or Ella as she was lovingly called, was the second of 9 children. Ella lived on the Monterey Peninsula most of her life. She was raised in Seaside, CA. She attended Highland, Fremont Jr. High, King Jr. High and Seaside High School. She furthered her education at Gavilan Community College where she received a Certificate in Early Childhood Development. Ella worked as a preschool teacher for over 10 years at Operation Shoe String, Seaside, CA. She also worked as a private caregiver, a domestic engineer and house manager. Ella met, fell in love with, and married her soul mate, Teddy Black in 1993 and shared a lifetime of memories in their 20 years of marriage. They were the proud parents of 3 children, La Shonda, Jacquisha, Keandre. Ella had a very special relationship with her grandson, Cordae. In 2002, Teddy and Ella moved to Sparks, NV. They returned to the Monterey Peninsula in 2005. Ella's interests included: fashions, cooking, gaming and shopping. She was passionate about serving and helping people which included feeding her neighbors while living in Del Monte Manor. She was well known for her hot plates. "You didn't know anything about Del Monte Manor, if you didn't know about Eloise's hot plates." Her door was always open to people with a need." She had a special love for God. When she accepted the Lord, her love for Christ grew and touched the lives of many. She will always be remembered by her family and friends through special times, which include her many gatherings bringing family together for fellowship and good food. She could be heard saying "Ella in the house!" or "I am Miss Vogue". There were also the many opportunities she took to witness to anyone who would listen - sharing her testimony about how God has changed her life. Her testimony, which was shared on New Year's Eve, transformed the lives of many people. One thing we do know is that Eloise never surrendered to this disease. She would always say, "I don't have cancer, cancer has me." Because of her faith, her testimony inspired others until her last moments, when she sent text messages saying "Don't worry about me, the devil is already defeated" and "By the grace of Jesus, the son of God, I am healed. The devil is a lie" Preceding her in death are her brother, Michael Addison and her father-in-law, Ted Black, Sr. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Teddy Black II of Seaside, CA; three children: La Shonda Strong, Jacquisha Black, and Keandre Black all of Seaside, CA; mother, Lillian Addison of Seaside, CA; her siblings: Tyrone Thompson of Pleasanton, CA; Amanda Graham of Salinas, CA; Myron (Chris) Addison of Warner Robins, GA; Marjorie Addison of Pacific Grove, CA; Vanessa (Lester) Williams of Fresno, CA; Russell Addison, Sheba Addison-Stevenson, Felicia Addison of Sunnyvale, CA; mother & father-in-law: Brenda & Henry Hartley of Marina, CA; sisters and brothers-in-law: Rodwick Johnson of Tracy, CA; Annalisa Mitchell; Randall (Faith) Black; Charles (Tanisha) Smith, all of Seaside, CA; Nancy Black, Marina, CA; grandchildren: Lamia Jackson and Cordae Smith; a special niece who was cherished as a daughter, Angel Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
