Obituary of Fusako Gardner
Seaside - Fusako Yamashita Gardner, age 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, Friday, August 1, 2014.
Fusako was born on January 9, 1926 in Gifu, Japan. She met and married Robert Gardner while he was stationed there. They bought their first home in Seaside in 1955. With her talent in cooking she worked for several Japanese restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula until retiring in 1988. She became a full time homemaker to spend time with her family and grandchildren. She was also a loving care-giver to her son-in-law for over 19 years.
Fusako enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, crocheting, watching her favorite game shows: Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and cheering on the SF Giants. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing Japanese meals for her family and friends. She was very creative and had so many talents. She was a wonderful, strong, caring person with a warm, gentle and loving heart. Her greatest passion in life was being a mother and grandmother and she loved and cherished her family.
Fusako was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her parents. She is survived by her children; Janet Gardner-Wheeler (Herb), Robert Hayes Gardner, Ava Gardner-Lew, Linda Gardner, and Edward Gardner, grandchildren; Robert Gardner, Justin Stokes, Darrick Jurden, and Joshua Lew (Sarah), great-grandchildren; Acashia Gardner, Joessiah Dunn, and Evelyn Ivy.
Fusako's family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Matt, Shannon, Mary, Christina and Kimberly of Hospice of the Central Coast, Dr. Nancy Rubin, Josephine Lauer and Preston of Monterey Bay Oncology, and Dr. Michael Hendrick for the excellent care they provided to our dear mother.
