Obituary of Doris Stokes

Doris Guendla Stokes was born on August 1, 1933 in Morris Chapel, Tennessee to Renchal and Albie Godfrey. She spent her youth growing up on a farm where she developed a lifelong love of animals and adventure. After receiving her education at Tennessee State University she travelled the country and started her family. Her career included work in retail, accounting at a Monterey news station, and property management. Her greatest adventure began when she landed in the Monterey Peninsula and met the love of her life Tony (Albert) Stokes in 1971. During his military career they travelled the world together, but ultimately they would call the Peninsula home. Doris could make any stranger feel like they were family and always commanded attention when she walked into a room. She never missed a sale at Macy's and loved to boogaloo. Doris was never one to left the grass grow beneath her, she loved life and met everyday with a warm smile. Doris is survived by her loving husband Tony (Albert), her children Sheila Buchand and Terrence (Yvonne) Stokes, goddaughters Peggy Thompson and Gabriella Giacovelli, granddaughter Doneka Lang (mother Sharron Lang), grandsons Demetrius Perry, Terrence II and Keith Stokes, great grandchildren Lamai & Dylan Perry, Keith Jr., Camario, Keimarion, and Keisean Stokes and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and in laws. Doris was preceded in death by her beloved parents, sister Mildred (George) Raines, and her son Anthony Lang. Now that I am gone release me let me go—I have so many things to see, places in Heaven to visit and there are so many things I do not know. Don't be sorrowful or shed tears for after all my race for righteousness is finally won. Be thankful that you knew me here on Earth, remembering the joys and earthly fun. The times I spent with His scriptures, when my heart & mind wondered why He put me here. created in the His image, yet my sins kept me in total fear. As the years went by my character changed, I looked more like His child. I must travel as I came alone, comforted by my trust is in Christ Jesus, knowing he would bring me home. I will always be near and dear; just listen to your heart without fear and you will surely find me there. When your turn comes I want to come for you some bright and sunny day, with His permission I hope He grants my prayer, to show you the way. Remember this, my last request is for you to read the Holy Scriptures and always trust Him live in hope and always daily pray. Love Forever, Doris
