Obituary of Edgar C. Kloth

Edgar Kloth arrived in this world September 30, 1919. He was born in his parent's home on Easy Street in Downey, California. Ed worked in the orange orchards and corn fields with his father Edgar and brother Jack through high school. After two years at Long Beach Junior College, he met and married Lorrain Cauldwell. Ed joined the Navy in 1940, served in WWII as an airplane mechanic, and retired in 1960. He then served at the Naval Postgraduate School as service station manager for 12 years before returning to Downey to care for his mother Rose in her last years. Ed's love for fishing led to selling Western Outdoor News and teaching youth fishing clinics (in addition to the six-foot thrasher shark he caught in Long Beach). For 39 years he served faithfully as a member and officer alongside his shipmates in Fleet Reserve Association Branch 178. Ed is survived by his loving wife Lorrain of 72 years, their four sons, Wayne, Raymond, Randal, and Dale, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Ed left this world January 9, 2014. A man among men, he is loved and missed by all. A funeral service will be held at Mission Memorial Park and Seaside Funeral Chapel, 1915 Ord Grove Ave. at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014.
