Obituary of Myong Cha Kang

Myong Cha Kang passed away at her home on September 8, 2017 at the age of 76. Myong was born in Seoul, South Korea, on June 29, 1941 to Tae Shik and Soon Nam Min. She lived in Marina for 43 years. She was a devout Christian and was an Elder at Central Presbyterian Church and at one time served as president of Women's Ministry for her church. Myong was a very caring, generous and hard-working person. She always took food to her friends who were ill, washed and styled their hair, watched over them and prayed with them. She was a hairdresser for over 50 years and it was not only a job but a passion. She went on Missionary trips to Mexicali where she cut locals' hair. She also owned and managed her own beauty salon in Marina and Seaside for many years. One of her greatest joys and achievements was being the matriarch of a beautiful, diverse, loving family. Myong loved family gatherings for holidays and birthdays, especially New Year's. She made homemade won ton soup every New Year's Day for breakfast for her family. Myong loved to travel with her husband, Bong Kang, when opportunities arose. Some of her favorite places were South Korea, China, Japan, Yosemite, Hawaii and the Grand Canyon. One of her beloved hobbies was to garden. She was proud of her beautiful vegetables and shared them with her family and friends. Myong will be missed, but will be remembered for having the kindest and biggest heart. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, whom she loved dearly. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of over 30 years, Bong Kang; her three children, Leo Yi (Sunny), Won Yi (Rebecca) and Jung Yi (David Crabbe); her step- children, Amy Kang and Christina Kim (Jack); her pride and joy of 8 grandchildren, Justin & Jenna, Christian & Nathaniel, Emma, Adeline & Hallie, and Sean. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 16th at Mission Memorial Park & Seaside Funeral Home beginning at 11 a.m.
