Obituary of Anita M Ferrante

Anita, a loving mother, sister, Nonna and friend passed peacefully to our Lord surrounded by family, love and prayer. Born in Marettimo, Sicily, Anita was brought to the United States by her father and mother at the age of 6. She met her father for the first time at this young age as he had arrived earlier to prepare a home for his family.

Anita quickly mastered the English language and was a huge support to her parents as they adapted to life in America. These early skills served her well as she helped manage the successes of her father, one of Monterey’s top sardine fishermen. While she fully embraced her American dream, she never forgot her roots and returned to her beautiful island of Marettimo each summer to enjoy its warm waters and adoring friends. She spent her 90th birthday on the Island with over 40 family members gathered in her honor.

Anita’s legacies will most certainly include her love for family and her ability to keep many important family traditions and bonds strong. Her Catholic faith was the center of her life. Upon entering her home, you would be greeted by her beloved presepio and the sound of a Catholic Mass in background. Always gracious, compassionate and a true matriarch, Anita will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

She leaves behind her sisters Phyllis Zahradka (Mirek), Maria O’Farrell (Bob), her children Vicki Ferrante Ramirez (Ron), Diana Miller (Carl), Salvatore Ferrante (Ann), her grandchildren, Alexander and Marc Miller, Nick and Maria Ramirez, Dominic and Ali Ferrante and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Maria Ferrante and her sister Rosalie Davi (Anthony).

A rosary will be held on Tuesday, January 8th at 7:00pm with visitation from 4:00pm to 8:00pm

A funeral Mass will begin at 10am on Wednesday January 9th at San Carlos Cathedral, followed by a reception at the Monterey Marriott.

All are welcome.
