Obituary of Joan C. Ottley

Joan Cooper Ottley left this world peacefully on December 3, 2018 in Carmel Valley. Joan was born in Sacramento, California in 1930 into a loving family led by her parents, Hazel and Robert Cooper. During her 88 years, Joan was known for her boundless energy, sense of humor, and her enthusiastic love of gardening, birds and classical music.

Her parents, husband of 34 years, Norman Ottley, son John F. Williamson and brother Robert Cooper predeceased Joan. She is survived by her brother Richard Cooper, son Reed Williamson and daughter Jennifer Williamson (Dick), stepchildren Norman Ottley, Jr. (Penny), Lizabeth Ottley Terwilliger and David Ottley (Annie), grandchildren Drew Armstrong and Kaitlin Hite, step-grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Michelle, Michael, Beth, Brian, Bryon and Christine, and sixteen great grandchildren.

Joan’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Kathleen Voorhis, RN, and her wonderful staff of loving caregivers at the Villa Carmel, who took such wonderful care of her for the last three years. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.

A celebration of Joan’s life will be held at the Church of the Wayfarer in Carmel on Friday, December 14 at 1:00pm. An additional celebration will be held in Fresno in January. Date and location will be announced at a later date.
