Mary Jane Wells Drummond passed away peacefully July 17th 2010. She was born in Detroit, Michigan October 10th 1920. At a young age she traveled with her family, following the WPA projects where her father worked. She lived in: Flagstaff, AZ; Galveston, TX; Catalina Island, CA and Long Beach, CA. , As her mother worked, she assumed child care duties to her younger siblings before and after school each day and helped care for dozens of children who resided on properties her mother managed. She graduated from Polytechnic High School and advanced to Pasadena Business College earning an AA degree. She worked for Bell Telephone as an operator and advanced to supervisor where she wore roller skates due to the length of the switchboards. She remained an avid skater. While working as a part-time model for Pendleton Clothing in the Market District she met a young patrol lieutenant, Ralph Drummond. They were married in 1952 and their love for each other through the years was the envy of all who knew them. They lived in Pasadena Hills with her son and two daughters and in 1960 moved to the Monterey Peninsula where Ralph opened a law practice and was later appointed as a Judge. Throughout the years she participated in church activities and fund raisers and was active in the Bing Crosby/AT&T golf tournaments. She was an accomplished artist who donated pieces to local silent charity auctions. She and Ralph traveled the world extensively with a particular interest in cultural attractions and museums. Her favorite places were: The Hermitage; The Alhambra; The Louvre and The Sistine Chapel, but she always loved returning home and living in the most beautiful place on earth. After Ralphs passing, she continued to support their favorite charities which included the Rancho Cielo Carmel Foundation, The Monterey Boys and Girls Club and St. Jude?s Hospital. She was very proud to be able to view the completion of The Drummond Culinary School at Rancho Cielo. She gave her own children and many other children hours of active, vibrant love and devoted attention.
