Obituary of Gene Harold Taylor

Gene Taylor, 68, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011 in Fresno after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Gene was born July 2, 1942 in Cherry Valley, Arkansas. He and his family came to California when he was 6 months old and was a resident of Salinas until 2003 when he and his wife, Gloria, moved to Clovis. Gene attended Salinas schools and graduated from North Salinas High School, class of 1960. He worked at a cabinet company in Moss Landing from 1960-1965 and retired from the Monterey County Water Resources Agency in 2001. Gene obtained his real estate license in 1978 and continued his work as an agent in Fresno County to present. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and especially, his grandchildren. Gene is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gloria of Clovis; son Gerrod of Salinas; daughter Genelle and husband Matt Kumpe of Fresno; grandchildren Josh and Eric of Salinas, Aiden and Ava of Fresno; his sister Barbara and her husband Harold VanSchuyver of Salinas; nephews Rick and Mike VanSchuyver and their spouses; sister-in-law Mary Ann Homen of Del Rey Oaks; nieces Karen and spouse, Kamie and Krissie; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Virgie Taylor and sister Patricia. A viewing will be held from 5 - 7 pm Wednesday, March 9 at Mission Mortuary and services at 11 am Thursday, March 10 at Santa Rosalia Chapel, both in Monterey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
