Obituary of Josephine D. Camacho

Josephine (Jo) Camacho, age 89, died peacefully at home on 6 March 2018. She was born on 26 March 1928 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Joseph and Isabella Carvalho, and was the second youngest of 10 children. She and her husband, Harold (Hal) were married on the 24th of April 1948 in Honolulu, Hawaii upon her return to the islands after completing her education in San Diego, California. During their twenty four years of shared army life, she and Hal lived at several military installations in Europe, Hawaii, and California. Upon Harold's retirement from the US Army on 31 October 1968, they made Seaside their permanent home. They were blessed with two sons, Col (USAF, ret) Harold J. Jr (Skip) and Randall James, who passed away in April 1973. Jo was a Lector and Eucharist Minister for many years at St. Francis Xavier Church. She and Hal served as the 1st American Legion Post Commander and Auxiliary Unit President in 1980-81. Jo was also a charter member of the Young Ladies Institute at St. Francis Xavier Church, as well as being and auxiliary member of the VFW and DAV in Seaside. Jo's favorite hobby was cruising as she loved being on a cruise ship. She also loved playing bingo and her trips to Reno. Jo will be missed, as all who met her knew that no one was a stranger in her presence. Jo is survived by her husband, Hal; her son, Harold Jr. and his wife, Linda and two granddaughters, Caitlynn Nicole Camacho and Courtney Brianne Camacho Montgomery and her husband, Wendell all in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The family would like to thank Always Best Care and their providers Rosemary Lopez, Julia Ajoux, Mary Fuentez, and Ashley Moli for the wonderful care they provided Jo for the past year. Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm at Mission Mortuary on Sunday, March 11th. Rosary will be recited at the Mortuary at 7pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 12th at 11am at St. Francis Church in Seaside with burial to follow at Mission Memorial Park, Seaside.
