Obituary of Robert Takeji Ouye

Robert T. Ouye, Sr., first elected Mayor of Marina, CA passed away on January 18, 2018 in Monterey, CA. He served in the U.S. Army for twenty years and retired in 1972 as a Sergeant First Class. At age 17, he entered the Army and served from 1951 to 1972 during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman's Badge amongst many others. He was also a 100% Disabled American Veteran. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he immersed himself as a Charter City Councilmember from 1975 to 1987, serving as Mayor for three years. He also worked at the Monterey County sheriff's Department from 1972 to 1982. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Sueno, his parents, five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his second wife of 42 years, Joan Yamasaki Ouye, children, Mary Ann Ouye, Robert Ouye Jr., Sue Crafts and Valerie Ouye. A military inurnment is scheduled for Friday, March 23, 2018, at 9:30 AM at the Central Coast Cemetery at Ft. Ord, California. Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at El Estero Presbyterian Church, Monterey, CA at 11:00am with a reception to follow.
