Obituary
Obituary of Daniel Lee Burns
Dan Burns, 71, of Marina, CA, passed away on December 16th, with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Dan was a lifelong resident of Monterey County having been born in Carmel and spending his younger years in Monterey and Seaside before settling in Marina 41 years ago. Dan graduated from Monterey High School and was drafted in to the Army before returning to Monterey to raise his family. In his younger years Dan was proud of his employment at Hodges Rentals and used the mechanical skills learned to be an avid car, boat, motorcycle an RV mechanic. From classic Mustangs, jet boats, to Harley Davidson's there was always a motor to wrench on and he was always up for the task. Later, he was employed by MRWPCA and he retired after 34 years of service. As an active member of the Marina community, Dan served as the president of Marina Pony Baseball and Marina Pop Warner. His enduring value of helping others was a hallmark of his service to local youth sports programs. During those years, Dan served hundreds of young people and their families annually, many of which became lifelong friends and extended family. After retirement he was elected to the Marina Coast Water District Board and he provided his knowledge and expertise to serve the Board well. Dan spent his retired years being the biggest cheerleader for his seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and he was always ready for a quick casino run with Linda. Also,
Dan was a DIY'er before the term existed which helped him be an asset as an active volunteer in the service organization, Rebuilding Together. His work in this organization was a great example of his quality of helping others who needed support. Dan loved life and enjoyed sharing the greater parts of living with others.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 51 years Linda (Torrente) Burns, two daughters, Stacey Avina (David) and Robin Sehrt (Mike), and his son Daniel Jr. (Suzette), and his brother, Walter (Bud). Dan was preceded in his death by his parents Pearl and Daniel Burns, his brother Robert and his sister Blanche.
