Obituary of Joseph Louis Giovine

Joseph Louis Giovine, a lifelong Monterey and Carmel resident, passed away October 12, 2017 at the age of 100. Mr. Giovine was a champion horse breeder, raising many Arabians while also corunning Valneeza Market in Monterey with his sister May for more than 50 years. Mr. Giovine is survived by his nephews and niece, Paul Tredway, North Bend WA, Stephen Tredway, Cape Coral FL, John Tredway, Venice, FL and Mary Jackson, Seattle, WA. and their spouses.He also has 19 great and great-great nieces and nephews in Seattle and Louisville along with many cousins in Monterey. Son of Italian immigrants, Mr. Giovine lived in the Monterey area for all of his 100 years except for his service in the U.S. Army. He married Florence, his wife of nearly 50 years before she passed in 1989. Together, they had a ranch in Carmel where they pursued a passion for horses and lived very active lives. Recently, Mr. Giovine lived at Sunrise Assisted Living in Monterey where he made friends who loved and cared for each other with dignity and affection. A service will be conducted on Wednesday, October 18 at 1pm in the San Carlos Cemetery of Monterey beginning with a ceremony of remembrance in the Santa Rosalia Chapel.
